The role
 
Based in our Lymington office, we are currently looking for a Portfolio Manager to join our Private Wealth team on a permanent basis.

  1. Key Accountabilities

  • To ensure the efficient management of client portfolios, with particular regard to observation of client investment guidelines, suitability, capital gains tax limitations (if applicable) and general planning aspects, adhering to the FCA rules on Conflicts of Interest and Treating Customers Fairly.

  • To construct client portfolios, selecting investments from either a pre-defined list, or in accordance with models, as appropriate to the client.

  • To give investment advice and recommend products to clients and potential clients.

  • Act in an ethical way at all times and always put the Customers’ interests first whilst abiding by the FCA’s Code of Market Conduct and Treating Customers Fairly principles in all market dealings.

  • To liaise, personally, with individual clients, or their representatives, to ensure that the Company’s image regarding the ‘personal service’ and ‘quality’ and FCA Treating Customers Fairly principles is maintained.

  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance Team and Business Development to ensure that standards for all retail clients are maintained at an appropriate level.

  • Identify, control and monitor operational risks.

  1. Measures

  • Work towards achievement of Sanlam budgets and to increase funds under management as agreed in annual plans. Work efficiently and effectively to achieve minimal number of deal errors or data breaches.

  • Extend current list of professional referrers of business and undertake networking/business development events as defined in Marketing Plan.

  • Work in accordance with the Sanlam Procedures and Compliance manual and adhere to ‘best advice’ and ‘treating customers fairly’

  • Receive no justified complaints or recorded FCA significant rule breaches.

  • Issue all client, quarterly valuations within prescribed timescales and ensure office is compliant in respect of record keeping, FCA rules and company policies and procedures.

  • To act in accordance with the Company’s operating and compliance procedures at all times and to bring any potential or actual breaches to the immediate attention of the Head of Compliance.

  • Ensure the Training and Competence standards are met and competence is maintained. 

  • Ensure that the necessary standards, systems, processes and procedures are in place to protect the company from risks and maintain the necessary records in order to satisfy external regulators and auditors.

Skills and experience
 
The job holder is likely to have a CISI Diploma or CISI Master (Wealth Management), educated to at least ‘A’ level standard – minimum 2 ‘A’ levels at grade A, B or C, English and Maths GCSE at grade 9-4 (A, B or C) or, minimum of 2 years’ experience in a role requiring similar levels of numeracy and literacy e.g. Banking/ Finance and a minimum of 3 years industry experience in a similar role.

The job holder will ideally have a working knowledge of; Taxation –personal, corporate & Trust; IHT; Trusts – legal structure.
