Based in our London office; we are currently looking for an Investment Analyst to join our Investments team on a permanent basis. 

The role

An exciting opportunity working at the heart of Sanlam’s investment team. The successful individual will be investing into direct equities, direct fixed income, futures and options. With an emphasis on collaborating with the specialist investments teams and contributing to the multi asset investment process, there will be a uniquely broad range of exposures in all key areas of investment management. This analyst role provides a chance to work with the Chief Investment Officer and help shape Sanlam’s asset allocation, with a clear career path to fund manager responsibilities.

Analysis 

  • Generate asset allocation data pack and contribute to the analysis

  • Produce monthly presentation to be given to the Portfolio Managers

  • Produce monthly investment update to financial advisors on Multi Asset Funds

  • Maintain multi asset process investment presentation

  • Generate investment ideas backed by data and analysis of evidence

  • Analyse and understand portfolio risks including ESG risks

  • Equity analysis of existing and potential positions

  • Credit analysis of existing and potential positions

Reporting

  • Performance analysis and reporting (board meeting, IPOC, EXCO) for models and the fund

  • Assist with the client facing commentary as required (Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly commentary)

  • Participate in daily morning meeting, representing the CIO if absent

Presenting

  • Present the investment process to financial advisors 

  • Present recent fund activity and market outlook

  • Explain positioning, performance, and any investment decisions taken to investors

  • Present the Investment team’s research 


Support SPW Portfolio Managers

  • Manage Private client HNW models in line with Multi Asset Funds

  • Structured product origination as required


Fund Management (as experience grows)

  • Understand the investment case behind each position

  • Monitor positions and highlight potential trades as appropriate

  • Liaising with specialist teams to share ideas and collaborate 

  • Day to day ensuring Funds are positioned appropriately 

  • Day to day execution of trades for the funds ensuring transaction costs are minimised.  

  • Early Identification of idiosyncratic and systemic risks in portfolios


Skills 

  • Strong work ethic

  • Responsibility and Accountability – Taking ownership of tasks and ensure they get done 

  • Proactive self-starter

  • Attention to detail and pride in work – Low frequency of error

  • Strong spreadsheet and IT skills - some knowledge of VBA useful

  • Strong communicator, Written, Verbal, and listening
