Seeking Guidance and Advice

In the first instance, we recommend you seek free and impartial financial guidance from the independent organisations appointed by the Government for this purpose, such as The Pensions Advisory Service and The Citizens Advice Bureau.

Pension Wise is a Government service that offers you: tailored guidance (online, over the telephone or face to face) to explain what options you have and help you think about how to make the best use of your pensions savings; information about the tax implications of different options and other important things you should think about; and tips on getting the best deal, including how to shop around.

Through Pension Wise, you will be able to access online guidance from both The Pensions Advisory Service and The Citizens Advice Bureau. You will also be able to obtain telephone guidance from The Pensions Advisory Service and face to face guidance from the Citizens Advice Bureau.

To receive free, impartial guidance from the Government, go to Pension Wise or call direct on 0800 138 3944. This line is open between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday, to make a face to face or telephone appointment.

Choosing what to do with your pension savings is an important financial decision; you can often get more for your money by shopping around. Having done this, if you require any further advice, we strongly recommend that you consult your own financial adviser if you have one.

Professional advice can be important. Retirement planning is a complicated business and getting professional advice can sometimes make a significant difference to the level of income you enjoy in retirement. Therefore we recommend that before you make any decisions you consider contacting your Financial Adviser.

If you decide to take advice from a financial adviser, then there may be a charge for their services, which will be agreed with you.

If you do not have a Financial Adviser then you may wish to consider contacting Sanlam Wealth Planning, a financial advisory firm within the Sanlam UK Group who offer a range of advice options, including a tailored retirement plan.  They have representation across the country that can offer a desk based service which enables you to receive advice at a time and in an environment that is convenient with your lifestyle.  If you feel this is of interest to you then please contact us or call 0117 975 2125.

Alternatively you may be able to access financial advice through your workplace and if you are resident in the UK, you can find details of financial advisers (who will agree with you what they will charge for their services) in your area at the following websites Unbiased or Financial Planning
