Point of View

Join us in the fight against cancer

During the month of June, Sanlam will once again be the headline sponsor of Go Dad Run, the national series of fun runs for men and boys which seeks to raise awareness of men’s health issues and, in particular, prostate cancer, an illness which affects 1 in 8 men in the UK.

Men are traditionally awful when it comes to addressing and talking about their health and we want to be part of the movement to change that. As an organisation we are committed to helping people live the best lives possible and, through this sponsorship, we believe that we can help make a difference; through education, through raising awareness of the dangers the symptoms of prostate cancer  and through the removal of stigma. We may not be able to erase the illness but we can put an end to good men dying needlessly. That is our goal.

Go Dad Run is the brain child of World Champion and Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson CBE and will this year feature in 6 UK locations: London, Bristol, Cardiff, Worcester, Sunderland and the Isle of Man. You can find out more about our involvement by watching our short video

How can you help? How can you get involved?

Sanlam’s Go Dad Run isn’t about racing and winning, it’s about men, colleagues and families uniting, having fun and doing something positive. You can help and get involved in a number of ways:

  • Please go to www.godadrun.co.uk, find out more about Go Dad Run, spread the word and, if possible, get involved. We would love it if all of our male clients/contacts signed up to run or walk one of the 5km or 10km events.
  • Enter one of the team events with male colleagues in the office.
  • Whilst prostate cancer only affects men we mustn’t forget that many of those men have wives, children, sisters, mothers and aunts whose lives can also be turned upside down by this awful illness. Ladies, please urge the men in your life to take the test and encourage your husbands and sons to get involved and run together.
  • If you’re a male aged 45 or over, talk to your GP and get yourself checked. There is a huge lack of awareness out there and initial diagnosis is through a simple blood test.

Our support of Go Dad Run forms part of our global commitment to the battle against cancer and we hope that you will support us in our endeavours. More information surrounding Go Dad Run is available on all our social media platforms.

Thank you.
