Sanlam announces sponsorship of 2015 Go Dad Run

Wealth management company Sanlam has announced sponsorship of the ‘Go Dad Run’ series of 5k runs for 2015. For the second year in a row, Sanlam is pleased to be support these runs which are being held across the UK to raise awareness and funds for Prostate Cancer UK.

Go Dad Run was launched three years ago by world champion athlete Colin Jackson. Colin wanted to create something positive which would help raise funds and awareness of prostrate cancer when two of his own uncles developed the illness and only one survived.

Colin Jackson said, “As with Race for Life, many of those who have signed up to take part in Sanlam’s Go Dad Run often have very personal stories of their own. Some are currently being treated for prostate cancer themselves, others are in remission and many are raising funds in memory of loved ones they have sadly already lost, or to support those who are battling it. Those who get involved in the Sanlam Go Dad Run will be making a difference to thousands of men around the UK and contributing to helping save the lives of thousands.”

The series of Go Dad Runs are to be held in Worcester, Bristol, Warrington and Llangefni on dates in June, and the London and Cardiff runs will be held on Fathers’ Day which is Sunday June 21st. Men as well as boys aged 11 and over are eligible to register, get sponsored and join in to run, jog or walk around one of six courses.

Colin chose Father’s Day so that the event had a natural male focus. But as well as generating funds, the run will provide the platform to raise the important issues of prostate cancer to men, who are notoriously reluctant to discuss their own health issues.

Lauren Tunnicliffe, Sanlams’ Corporate Engagement Manager commented: “In the UK one man dies every hour from prostate cancer, and about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer at some point in their lives.  We are delighted that Sanlam has chosen to sponsor Go Dad Run and that so many of our own wealth planners and members of staff have signed up to take part.

“As wealth planners, our role as adviser is to help our clients plan for the future and often to consider the unexpected. Raising awareness of illnesses such as prostate cancer is an important part of our corporate responsibility. Helping to avoid the unnecessary death of any man, be it a brother, son, father or husband is something we are proud to be involved with.”

Go Dad Runs are open to fathers, sons, brothers, partners, friends, neighbours, work colleagues and teammates to take part in. And, of course, mums, wives, girlfriends and sisters all have a big role to play in getting the men in their lives to sign up and then supporting them on the day!

Entry costs £10 for boys aged 11-17 and £15 for men aged 18 and over.

All those who sign up will collect their race number, Go Dad Run Y-fronts and a free event T-shirt when they sign in on the day, and all will be presented with a Big Yellow Goodie Bag and a medal when they cross the finish line!
